This information is provided to help guide you the customer with assistance on helping choose the right type of concrete finish to suit your needs however the customer is always right and we will finish it whichever way you decide.
Our guarantee is your concrete will perform as it should the finish will be excellent or at the very least satisfactory.
Examples- of what you should look for!
All concrete should slope or drain water away from the building or to a floor drain, no pooling of water(low spots) or bumps(high spots).
The finish type: All should be consistent, clean (no debris or marks) and in short you should be happy with what you see when the work is complete.
The Choices
Broom
Is the classic finish its texture or broom should not be rough, but enough to prevent slipping. The expansion and edge lines should be straight and not to deep. Broom finish is best for driveways/ walk ways and anything that will see lots of traffic or winter use. It's easy to clean by hand or machine, reasonably low maintenance and cost, yet provides better traction than other finishes in winter months. Use as residential, commercial or decorative application.
Stamped
Is the use of textured mats to achieve a desired look. Again all lines should be straight and not deeper than the textured side of the mat, yet showing full impression of the stamp.
Some stamp designs are prone to hold water, these patterns with deep impressions tend to be difficult to shovel off or even snow blow, have also encountered issues with patio chairs rocking due to depth of pattern. We do warn of this however, but it is up to the customer to choose the type of pattern, according to type of use expected.
I recommend stamps that are not deep in most applications. its also fairly high cost and maintenance, sealing usually required twice a year to retain the look and protect the surface. On high traffic areas, you may find you need to seal 3 times to keep luxurious.
Use mainly decorative and ornamental, however some use as commercial and residential like driveways and approaches, depending on traffic you can expect no more than 3-5 years in high traffic and around 5-10 years maybe before beauty is gone, unless serious maintenance is done.
Due to the amount of sealer used surface can get very slippery in winter months. We recommend mainly for back patios and on interior work like basement floors, main floors and counter tops. I do not recommend sealers as they are hazardous and most wear faster than they advertise. Other options are available. Ask about our natural sealer.
